I wanted to link some of the tracks to this page, for others to check out. Plus, I usually manage to completely blank on a song when I go to find it again so this way I have some of them listed for later findings :) Also, if you're really into playlists and hearing music that you may not regularly listen to, 8tracks.com is an awesome site that you can input keywords that lead you to playlists labeled as such. For example, they have lots of 'studying' playlists...or there's an actual label for 'weed'...as well as 'smoke'; which is kinda funny looking amongst all the mood keywords.
Daughter-Still
Sleeping at Last-I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) Cover
Tom Odell-I Know
(Tom Odell is just amazing. Let's leave it at that.)
Pink Mountaintops-While We Were Dreaming
(Great song, terrible band picture. I like being able to actual make out all the lyrics and find them to be very beautiful, but at the same time they blend into the music well so they don't scream at you)

ReplyDeleteHey Casey!
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting some songs to check out. I love discovering new music. Sometimes I'll even come across a song that inspires me to write. Have you ever noticed that some lyrics are just so beautifully written that they could easily make a strong, compelling poem? Thanks for posting these. I'll definitely check them out.

Haha - now I get why you're so focused on soup in the other class : ) Thanks for the kewl music! I found this girl the other day, she just has a ukelele but her lyrics are very poetical and you can download her music for free (or make a small donation to help her buy better instruments) https://soundcloud.com/gabriellabir
ReplyDeleteAs for the music/poetry part, I find it very hard these days to find musicians who are both a blend of good lyricists as well as great instrument players (or a band to back them). I can certainly get behind minimalist bands that have good lyrics, but it doesn't really matter to me how many violins, bass guitars, or cow bells are in the background, it won't help the song if the lyrics aren't good!
